about a boy

i found out about robin williams death before it was big news. it was still in the 'hoax' stage and not fully believed by people. eventually it was a confirmed thing and filling every corner of the web.

my memories of the guy were limited. very limited actually. i know of flubber. i remember my brothers watching mrs doubtfire once. and i do know he was in aladdin which i probably saw once or twice. however, he was a big part of one movie that meant a lot to me.

back in 2007, i made a facebook account. one of the 'about me' questions was about my favorite movies. for as long as i can remember, they have been good will hunting and (unimportantly) the devils rejects.

why? well, around 2002, when i was living in south carolina one of my shift supervisors told me that i should watch 'good will hunting.' his reason being that i reminded him of the main character. i watched it eventually and i wont say it changed my life, but if it didnt...it came dang close.

to him, i was pretty good with that whole “computer thing” and he saw me as some kind of genius. (im not...a genius that is. i do wellish with the computers though). and to both of us i was pretty much wasting my time in a job that just wasn't doing anything for me. so long story short i saw the movie...liked it. understood his point. and in a way it was one of the nicer things ive been told in my thirty two years of life.

so after mr williams died i thought id entertain myself with some of his work. i didn't have a lot to pull from but itd been at least 10 years since seeing good will hunting, so why not dust it off, right? and by dust it off i mean open the wrapper as i hadnt seen it since buying the blu-ray back in 2012.

after watching it again as something of an adult, i definitely picked up a lot more than i did years ago. i guess i hadnt really picked up on the extra layers to the movie initially. and now i see them and can relate to a lot of that as well. all in all, the movie has aged well and is going to be holding down its spot as my favorite film for a while. likely forever.

obviously the movie wasn't fully about robin williams or even a result of his creation, but he contributed in a large way. and for that i thank him.
